On the afternoon of Friday, October 11, Kelly Dillon was struck by a car outside our shared house on Arkansas Ave NW, in Washington, DC. Kelly was standing with her left foot on the pavement, right foot on the curb, loading the trunk of her car for a camping trip when a driver hit the car parked behind her. Kelly's left leg took the brunt of the impact between the two car. With the help of a roommate, neighbors, friendly strangers and a quick emergency response, Kelly was brought to Washington MedStar Hospital Center, where she underwent her first surgery that evening.
Almost immediately, the many people who care about Kelly started reaching out with offers of love and support. Kelly's parents, Debbie and Todd, have been here in Washington to support Kelly through her recovery. The steady stream of friends visiting Kelly at the hospital, and number of people who have reached out to Kelly, Debbie and Todd, prove that Kelly Dillon is loved by many.
This website was created to provide updates on Kelly's recovery (and spirits!), ways you can help out and keep in touch, and ideas for bringing cheer to Kelly throughout this journey. Kelly's recovery from this accident will happen one step at a time; it will be a long road with many ups and downs. We can all play a role in bringing positivity, comfort and support to her along the way so that she can quickly get back to the things she's passionate about: teaching, outdoor adventures, cooking with friends, playing guitar, yoga and the many other activities that Kelly enjoys on a daily basis.
Thank you for joining this community of supporters--we welcome all contributions. Please be in touch with any further ideas for how, together, we can make this ride as smooth as possible for Kelly.
Much Love,
Kelly's Arkansas Ave Family (Maggie, Austen, April, Erica)
